The R980's Trimble Inertial Platform (TIP) technology uses a calibration-free, magnetically immune IMU to compensate for pole tilt up to 40°. Measure corners, edges, and hard-to-reach points without ever leveling the bubble — faster, safer, and more accurate.
Calibration-Free IMU
No magnetic calibration required. The R980's inertial platform is immune to magnetic interference from rebar, equipment, and metal structures on site.
40° Tilt Range
Tilt up to 40° in any direction while maintaining survey-grade accuracy. The R980 exceeds the R12i's 30° limit — the widest tilt range in Trimble's lineup.
Works With RTX & RTK
Tilt compensation works in both RTX and RTK modes — no correction source required to use TIP. Survey remote areas with satellite corrections and full tilt.
IMU Integrity Monitor
Continuous bias monitoring for temperature, age, and shock ensures the IMU stays accurate throughout the workday without user intervention.

Industry Standard
The 450 MHz band is the universal standard for RTK base/rover workflows. Compatible with virtually every Trimble, Pacific Crest, and SATEL base station in the field. Optimal for most open survey environments.
Interference Resistant
The 900 MHz spread-spectrum band excels where 450 MHz suffers interference — urban environments, congested job sites, and areas with competing radio traffic. Switch bands without changing hardware.
